Coach Steven Episode Guide + Crewniverse Recap #12

tumblr_n848jhaQlx1smn4pqo1_500

Good Morning Steven Universe fans.

Its been about two months since we’ve talked about the show, but that is due to the major hiatus Cartoon Network has placed on new episodes.  There has been no red flags about any doom or gloom lingering over the show, as Rebecca Sugar & gang were highlighted at this year’s SDCC panel along with Clarence’s crew and other great shows.  Being unfamiliar with how Cartoon Network releases their new episodes, I would assume these long hiatuses are common since the network likes to release new seasons back to back with the old ones as seen with Regular Show & Adventure Time.

In the morning update we bring you two features.  As always the Crewniverse Update which features all the posted content from the show’s crew via Tumblr, but apparently some of the non-US branches of Cartoon Network have actually aired Ep 120 “Coach Steven”, and thanks to the internet multiple copies are circulating the data waves.  Behind the page break you will find two versions, if you wish to spoil yourself before it finally reaches the US airwaves.

So expect some new Steven sometime soon.  Believe in Steven.

Crewniverse Recap #11

Tonight, brand new episode of Steven Universe on CN, 7pm est.  Tonight’s episode is dubbed “Rose’s Room”, so we’ll be getting another dose of random world building.  The synopsis:

Steven’s desire for some alone time unlocks a new room in the Temple that answers his every wish.

Preview clip available via Cartoon Network.

Sadly though that appears to be the only new episode for the month of May.  Coach Steven is now set to air sometime in June, along with a new episode title – Joking Victim.  No synopsis yet.

In other related news, the Steven Universe – WeLoveFine Design Contest has kicked off its “rating” portion of the contest.

70[1]

664 designs were submitted to WLF, and currently the general public will rate each shirt.  There are 20 days left for rating.  Then at the end three guest judges (Rebecca Sugar, Ian Jones-Quartey, & Steven Sugar) will pick the winners.

That’s all for now from the world of Steven Universe.  At some point in the future we’ll have to talk about the BOOM! Studio comic coming out sometime this summer.

Crewniverse Recap #10

From Storyboard revisionist Lauren Zuke: "guilty of making ames too anime"

From Storyboard revisionist Lauren Zuke: “guilty of making ames too anime”

While “Beach Party” has just aired, we step back in time to catchup on the Crewniverse’s updates via the last last episode, Lion 2: The Movie.  No new episodes  have been announced (yet) for May, and our next episode is “Coach Steven”, the one episode that was scheduled for earlier this month.  We’ll have more information as it becomes available.

In other semi-related news, later tonight we should have our episode guide for Beach Party posted, and sometime later this week we should have our interview with Michaela Dietz published.  Our interviewer editor Gendid sat down with her earlier last week for a brief talk about the show.

And now, for your Recap:

Crewniverse Recap #09

From Storyboard Artist Katie Mitroff: Just realized I can now share some of the New Pearl drawings I’ve had harbored forever…. Here’s one!

And thus as the week passes, another Crewniverse Recap.  For anyone who tuned in for Steven this week was welcomed by a Ninjago special (yay..).  It does make one ponder the choices CN makes due to the episode having just moved to Wednesdays.  Either way, next week is “Lion 2: The Movie” in which Steven and Amy (and lion) go off to the theater and hilarity ensues.  We’ll also be trying to snag some details from the Steven Universe Panel taking place this weekend at Wondercon Anaheim.  Enjoy.

Distance Models

What is a “Distance Model”?

When a character is seen in the distance, too much line complexity will create an over-complicated image. We drop detail to simulate the effect of seeing a character far away. If you’ve managed to notice this already, you’re not just seeing things- it’s quite intentional.

Because the show is animated by hand, we prefer not to scale down a complicated drawing- it becomes unclear and messy. Instead we use a distance model, which is a simplified version of that character.

Also they’re really cute.
