Nightmare Nights Returns in 2017 with Guests and Registration

We’re proud to announce that Nightmare Nights is back for year 5! This October 27th through the 29th, we’ll be taking over the Crowne Plaza Addison for another weekend of magical ponies for the 5th year in a row, and registration is now open. This year, Nightmare Nights will be better than ever, and here are some of the wonderful people who will be joining us as Guests of Honor!

Our first Guest of Honor, returning from her first visit in 2013, is Andrea Libman! You know her as the voice of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy, but you’ve undoubtedly heard her voice in other places. Andrea is a Leo-nominated actress who has worked as a voice over actor for more than twenty years. She has had roles on numerous animated TV series, including the title role of Madeline in Madeline and The New Adventures of Madeline, Emmy in DragonTales, young AndrAIa in Reboot, and Cathy in Monster Buster Club. Recently, she’s voiced the characters of Lemon Meringue, and Pupcake and Princess Berrykin in Strawberry Shortcake’s Berry Bitty Adventures. Upcoming projects include Maya the Bee and Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins. Andrea teaches and plays the piano and enjoys running, skiing and snowboarding, yoga and volunteer work. She holds her Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia.

Another Guest of Honor returning from our first year is Jim ‘Big Jim’ Miller! Jim is a storyboard artist, cartoonist, director and improviser living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He has worked primarily as a storyboard artist, most notably for 10 years at A.K.A. Cartoon Inc. on Cartoon Network’s Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, where he was a part of all 5 seasons, the 3 holiday specials and the TV movie. He has also done storyboard work on Kid Vs. Kat, Capcom’s Dead Rising 3, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. After starting on MLP, he has since moved on to storyboard supervising seasons 2 and 3 of that series, as well as the Equestria Girls movie. Season 4 of MLP saw Jim promoted to co-director. You can also see his work on the comic strip ‘Mystery: Solved!’ available bi-monthly in Skeptical Inquirer magazine.

Our third Guest of Honor, joining us for the very first time, is Shannon Chan-Kent! From My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Shannon is the voice of Silver Spoon and the singing voice of Pinkie Pie. She’s also the voice of Whittany and Brittany Biskit and Youngmee Song on Littlest Pet Shop, the speaking voice of Cherry Jam in Strawberry Shortcake’s Berry Bitty Adventures, the voice of Joy Pepper in Superbook, the voice of Chief in Pucca, the English voice of Misa Amane in Death Note, and Janet in Spectacular!. In addition to her voice acting career, she is also an opera singer (Soprano), having graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Opera at the University of British Columbia. Shannon has performed with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra as well as with local theater productions.

Of course, no convention runs itself, and we need your help! Panel applications are open from now until September 9. Every year we try to bring in as much of the wonderful talent of this community that we can, so please send us your applications! If you’ve got stuff to sell, our vendor application is open as well! Vendors can submit applications until June 30th to join our vendor hall. Nightmare Nights will be selecting vendors by a jury system, as we did last year, to ensure that there are a wide range of items for our attendees and vendors. See the applications for more information.

And most importantly, we need you to join us this October for the best Nightmare Nights yet! Registration is now open for all badges at a discounted rate until the convention, including our Sponsor badges, which are a great way to make your Nightmare Nights experience even more awesome. Our Celestial and Premium sponsor badges are in high demand every year, so don’t wait! Once you’re registered, reserve your room at the Crowne Plaza Addison using the code MLP for a discount.

Thank you to all our attendees and fans for your continued support over the years! We’ll have more announcements coming shortly, so be sure to stay tuned to our TwitterFacebook, and Tumblr feeds for more updates!

Nightmare Nights Announces Community Guests for 2016

We love inviting guest who work on our favorite show and all the media around it, but as we all know, this community is so much bigger than just show staff. We have four amazing community guests joining us this year.

PixelKitties has been one of the most popular artists in the fandom since the very first season of Friendship is Magic. With over a million views on DeviantArt, she’s created OCs for show staff and autograph signs for countless conventions. When she’s not drawing ponies, you can find her on Twitter talking about tacos and beer. As fans of combining beer, tacos, and ponies, we’re very excited to welcome her back!

Silver Quill is one of the most respected members of the pony analyst community. The self-described “brony fandom’s sole known reviewing hippogryph”, Silver Quill has over 100,000 subscribers watching funny and thoughtful analyses and deconstructions of pony episodes, movies, and more on YouTube. He’ll be bringing his trademark wit and insight back to Dallas for Nightmare Nights again this year!

LeekFish is an artist who has been drawing tiny horses since 2013. You’ve seen her work headlining conventions, splashed all over Twitter, and in just about every con’s vendor hall and charity auction. Not limited to drawing ponies, her art spans media like anime and video games, along with an original comic book and webcomic series named Envelove. With this being her fourth trip to Texas, we’re thrilled to have her as a community guest in 2016!

Foal Papers, scholar and noted British person, will be returning to Nightmare Nights for his fourth time! Foal will be leading our panels once again, discussing voice acting in the morning, writing in the afternoon, and scotch in the evening. Whether in his role as our Master of Ceremonies, or acting as M. A. Larson’s whipping boy, we’re very glad to have him back!

The con is getting closer and closer every week! Make sure to purchase your badge to Nightmare Nights on our homepage, as prices will be going up at the door. We’re back at the Crowne Plaza Addison for our fourth year, so reserve your room at our discounted room rate. We’re also accepting volunteers to help with all kinds of stuff at the con, in exchange for a free badge and a feeling of satisfaction from helping your fellow pony fans enjoy the convention!

Be sure to stay tuned here on our website, and on our TwitterFacebook, and Tumblr pages for more updates on guests, vendors, schedule, and more!

Editorial: Nightmare Nights Dallas 2014: Saturday Night Fever

After what has seemed like far too long, Derpy News has had the privilege of attending the second iteration of the pony convention Nightmare Nights Dallas.  Being a convention run by a longstanding friend to Derpy News, I was exited to see what he’d brought to the balmy heat of Dallas. And he did not disappoint. There were a few bumps in the road, but the pleasant, homely atmosphere of Nightmare Nights shone through regardless. You can find a more in depth report, along with more convention pictures, after the break. Read more →
