227 – “It Could’ve Been Great”
Written by: Joe Johnston, Jeff Liu
“The Gems take a trip to the moon.“
It’s Steven’s 14th birthday and Greg (about age 36 since he has known the Gems since he was 22) and Connie (age 12 3/4) comes to the barn for the party. Peridot will keep working on the drill. Greg goes through a photo album of Steven and it appears that his growth is stagnated somewhat. Greg is not that phased since Steven is half gem and that the way he grows may be a bit different.
Steven then goes inside the barn and stretches himself to have a growth spurt. However, he can only keep it up for so long. Greg and Amethyst catch on and the latter warns that if he keeps it up too long, it will be unhealthy. Indeed, while he is with Connie, Steven regresses to a baby. The Gems can’t help, but Greg and Connie do by showing them their love for Steven. Steven eventually is back to normal (with a facial hair).
Here is another nice episode. Steven is getting closer to Connie, but he now has issue about whether he won’t grow as tall as Connie might. But really, that’s about all there is to this episode—except that we get some highlights for Greg and Connie who are really cool with what is going on given Steven is a half-gem and that he doesn’t need to grow artificially. It’s not really a deep episode, but a very good one.
Pluses and Minuses:
+ Steven going though a natural conflict for someone his age
+ Greg and Connie
– Not much depth to story

Thanks to MKody in our comment section for filling in the details. Earlier in the day a fan page on Facebook known as A Steven’s Guide to the Universe posted a preview for the upcoming episode, Steven’s Birthday, due out on Tuesday during Steven Bomb 4: Steven’s Birthday Week. The video isn’t the typical preview seen handed out to the various media sites as it included the title screen card, and ended abruptly (compared to media previews where its edited nicely at the right points). Turns out the old Turner ship has a few leaks. But first, that preview.
Seems one of Turner’s data servers has been a little leaky, technically not as secure as it should be. This isn’t uncommon in at least the realm of cartoons, sometimes its previews, musical clips, and sometimes its entire episodes. These episodes are shipped around to various data servers to serve a purpose, be it a preview to various entertainment sites or the episode being uploaded to their own internal streaming service. We saw a lot of this in the realm of MLP, namely Entertainment Weekly previews and at the start of Season 4 with The Hub.
As pointed out a torrent user known as misseps was able to find the mystical rabbit hole and at one point was pulling full episodes from the void, then just two minute clips. Thus the actual source of these videos.
There is also now a two minute clip of The Answer, which was mostly seen in another preview earlier in the week. Might be an interesting week.
Steven Universe shall return this coming January 4th with an entire week of new episodes, via a fresh installment of a Steven Bomb marathon. The show last aired on October 15th with the episode “Too Far”, where Peridot learns about earthly humor and then takes it too far with Amethyst. It was also an interesting episode as it contained some major world building information, namely the roles of gems on Homeworld pointing out Pearl is suppose to be nothing more than a butler/servant, and Amethyst is an overcooked warrior.
A preview is available below, captured by the folks at The World of Steven Universe. From the looks of it this Steven Bomb like most of the others will be chalked full of information, given what we see in the sneak peek.
A possible Season 2 trailer for the upcoming second season of Wander Over Yonder. If its not official then it was put together by a loving fan of the show.
