“The Troll” Raising Wander to Six-Week High

I’m not entirely sure what the implications are of these ratings, but the Disney Channel press release certainly makes them sound celebratory:

“Wander Over Yonder” (Fri., 9:00 – 9:15p.m.) rose to 6-week highs, delivering its #3 regular telecast on record in Total Viewers (2.77 million), Kids 2-11 (1.73 million/4.4 rating), Kids 6-11 (1.30 million/5.5 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.05 million/4.3 rating).

This is the week of October 28 to November 3, so going back six weeks brings us to to the week of “The Fugitives.” The ratings we have of “The Fugitives” were a little sparse, but the ratings we do have are higher than these. So does this mean that Wander just emerged from a little dell; was “The Troll” just exceptionally  popular; did the first episodes still profit more from the premiere advertisement; or are these fluctuations so small and random that we can’t meaningfully read anything into them?

“The Troll” Episode Guide

“The Troll”

So we survived the so-called hiatus, or at least those of us who read these lines survived it. This week, Disney Channel has a mysterious new episode in store for us that has hardly been teased—not even nine seconds in the first promo and possibly a few more frames in the Wander Guide to the Galaxy one (the voiceover says “Wander’s Guide,” but I don’t see the possessive in the written version).

Here the official synopsis according to a Disney Channel press release:

Wander and Sylvia help Prince Cashmere and his goat warriors of Baaaaa-halla to defend themselves against a menacing troll.

iTunes/YayPonies have put up their full HD versions as well.

Synopses for “The Troll,” “The Box,” and “The Hat”

Nick and More just published a Disney Channel press release that cites three upcoming Wander Over Yonder episodes as November highlights. The release also reveals their synopses.

For “The Troll,” you can watch an also HD teaser video, and Craig McCracken has previously furnished another, longer synopsis of “The Box” in one of his interviews.

On November 1:

Wander Over Yonder “The Troll”
(9:00 PM – 9:30 PM ET/PT)

Wander and Sylvia help Prince Cashmere and his goat warriors of Baaaaa-halla to defend themselves against a menacing troll.

On November 15:

Wander Over Yonder “The Box”
(9:00 PM – 9:30 PM ET/PT)

When Wander and Sylvia are entrusted to deliver a sealed box, Wander can’t stop obsessing about what could be inside and struggles not to open it.

On November 22:

Wander Over Yonder “The Hat”
(9:00 PM – 9:30 PM ET/PT)

When Wander gets lost on a dangerous planet, Sylvia must learn to trust Wander’s magical hat and its mysterious ways, in order to find her buddy before it’s too late.

Wander Quest to the Hall of the Mountain King

Disney Channel is currently broadcasting a Wander Over Yonder bumper during some of their breaks that incorporates a popular fandom meme, namely the looped Wander Quest from the start of the start of the intro sequence combined with a fitting song.

For the song they chose an excerpt from Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, a seminal piece of Romantic era music, which incorporates themes of trolls, travel, and wanderlust. From Wikipedia:

The piece is played as the title character Peer Gynt, in a dream-like fantasy, enters “the royal hall of the Old Man of the Dovre (the Mountain King).” The scene’s introduction continues: “There is a great crowd of troll courtiers, gnomes and goblins. The Old Man sits on his throne, with crown and sceptre, surrounded by his children and relatives. Peer Gynt stands before him. There is a tremendous uproar in the hall.” The lines sung are the first lines in the scene.

You can find a longer version of the song on YouTube (or really a rather large number of them).

Thanks to Sunny, Sydney, and Cody for the heads-up(s). Sydney also put up a cam-recorded version.

HD version now embedded after the jump!
