316 – “Greg the Babysitter”
Written by: Lamar Abrams, Katie Mitroff
“Steven learns how Greg came to work at the car wash.“
We return to new episodes this weekend, and the My Little Pony Facebook page has put up a short preview of tomorrow’s episode.
In this episode, Steven regains his healing spit after using it to repair MC Bear Bear after losing them in “House Guest”. Steven then wants to use those powers on Centipeetle from “Monster Buddies.” The Gems reluctantly allow it and Steven is able to tame Cetni down and she is able to remember her time with Steven. She also remembers through drawings what happened. She and her crew went to Earth to colonize it, but got caught up in the Gem war and then was corrupted by a glow from the Diamonds.
This upsets Centi and she reverts to her corrupted form. Steven then transports her to the ship where Steven is able to reunite Centi with some of her crew who have been waiting for her.
This is a good episode with a couple of things to set up the future. First, Steven’s healing spit is back, though it is not as effective on corrupted gems like Centi. Also, we are introduced to the gem language that Centi used to tell her backstory. We’ll see how both are used in the rest of this season, but it was a sweet story of Steven trying to see the best in everyone and everything and helping out a past friend of his in Centipeetle.
It’s pizza night and Kiki delivers his favorite pizza for his me-time. Kiki is doing double-duty because Jenny just wants to play heavy metal and go to concerts. Steven then enters Kiki’s dream and defeats the pizza monster. This happens repeatedly until Steven gets too tired. Kiki and Steven finally attempt to get to the root of the problem and that’s Kiki being unable to say no to her twin sister. Saying no ends the nightmares for her and Jenny finally does some work at the pizza place.
This is an OK episode. It gets a bit predictable as it goes on and Jenny does come off as a bit of a douche for continuing to take advantage of Kiki. You could have guessed that it was going to come down to that with the pizza dreams. There are some nice visuals and animation, but the cheese puns were too…cheesy. Unfortunately, this came off as average and deserves and average grade.
