Wanted: In-Kind Donations for GalaCon 2018 Charity Auction

The theme of GalaCon 2018 is travel, and whether Canni travels to the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, or India, there’s always going to be one constant: the charity Animal Equality fighting for all the exploited animals who would otherwise be voiceless. Animal Charity Evaluators has selected them as one of the three most effective animal charities in the world.

Per our recommendation, GalaCon 2018 (July 28–29 in Ludwigsburg, Germany) will once more support these valiant investigators and protectors with up to three auctions: the silent auction, the Super Speedy SaturdaySale, and the Grand Auction on Sunday.

Wanted: In-Kind Donations for the Auctions

These three auctions can only succeed if you donate valuable items now that will inspire bidders from Europe and from all around the world to reach for new heights of generosity.

To donate in kind to the auction, please visit the GalaCon 2018 Charity Auction website and click on “Donation Pre-Registration Form” to fill in the donation form for every item, even if you plan on bringing it to the convention rather than mailing it.

The more time there is to plan the auction, the more efficiently GalaCon will be able to handle the items sell more of them. Plus you will know whether your donation meets the requirements before you carry it to the convention.

If you have further questions about the auctions, please contact [email protected].

On Saturday, February 11, at 4 p.m. EST (9 p.m. UTC), Ponyville Live will host an online fundraiser, complete with a stream of the album, and a public group chat with musicians.

When you donate, you can download A Change of Heart, and all of Bronies for Good’s previous albums! You can already donate, and you’ll be able to download all past albums right away as well as A Change of Heart upon the start of the release party.

The Theme

A Change of Heart continues to promote the theme of last year’s album: global empathy. The concept of global empathy is oft misunderstood because it is a very dry term for a profoundly personal and emotional process. Humans are instinctively compassionate; upon witnessing the suffering of sentient beings, we are motivated with a desire to help alleviate said suffering. Regardless of race, background, or country, we care and seek to do our best to help those in need.

However, everyone’s awareness has limitations. The modern world is fast-paced, and the suffering of others can all too often seem abstract, especially when it is very far away. It takes work to both remain aware, and to keep one’s heart from becoming jaded.

A Change of Heart is all about overcoming those obstacles, as individuals, and as a people.

The Charity

It is important for any charitable enterprise to back a trustworthy and effective cause. Seeds of Kindness benefits the Against Malaria Foundation – an organization that saves thousands of lives by helping to improve health conditions in less-developed nations.

GiveWell has rated it one of the best charities in the world.

Over 200 million people contract malaria every year, and many who survive are locked in poverty due to expensive treatments. It is a permanent catastrophe.

It is also easily preventable.

The Against Malaria Foundation stands out because of its strong track record and commitment to efficiency, program monitoring, and transparency. As malaria-infected mosquitoes mostly bite at night, it can be prevented with cheap, long-lasting insecticidal nets. As little as $3 buys a net that will protect two people for two or three years and contribute to the permanent elimination of the disease.

Bound Together – Free Shipping Day

One year ago, the thousandth person took the Giving What We Can pledge, promising to donate 10% of their income to the most effective charities in the world – for example our recommended charities – all throughout their life.

We want to celebrate the anniversary of this milestone by offering free shipping on our comic book Bound Together for all orders on May 25, 2016 (according to EDT). You can subscribe to our newsletter for a timely reminder!

The donations benefit the Against Malaria Foundation that just finalized plans for the largest distribution of mosquito nets in its history – a milestone that is also your achievement!

AMF has signed an agreement with Uganda’s Ministry of Health to fund 10.7 million long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) for distribution in Uganda’s upcoming universal coverage campaign (UCC). The nets … will protect 19.3 million people. … Every donation, large and small, has made this possible.

Malaria is one of the primary health issues in Uganda, with high incidence levels seen across many districts. These nets have the potential to play a major part in reducing deaths and illness.

Of course you can also order your Bound Together right away.

About Bronies for Good

The show has taught us that a pony’s compassion is wide – it transcends country borders and races, and Fluttershy’s compassion has room for all species of critters, whether bear, squirrel, or chicken. We of Bronies for Good implement this message in the real world, where we run fundraising campaigns and rely on comparative research – such as that of GiveWell and Animal Charity Evaluators – to always find and support the best charities in the world.

In-Kind Donations for Pony Congress 2016 Charity Auction

Equestria, Griffonstone, or Crystal Empire; Winona, Elizabeak, or Mooriella – ponies have taught us that every feeling individual counts, no matter who or where. Many of us have made it our goal to find those who suffer the worst hardships in the world, to find the best ways to help them, and when we do, to buckle down and get it done.

Pony Congress 2016

If you attend Pony Congress, then you have two chances to join us: the convention will run a charity auction in which you can bid, and for the charity auction to be a success, you can now also contribute in-kind donations!

Pony Congress will take place on June 25–26, 2016, in Elbląg, Poland. The convention team is accepting contributions through:

Help! My Heart is Full of Pony! – Real Magic / (Charity)

Source: MLP:FIM, Season 5, Episode 24, The Mane Attraction

This week’s episode was about a popstar who’d been bullied and manipulated by her manager.  Over time, Ra Ra had grown to doubt her own self-worth, but it was her love of charity that finally showed her the light, and the realization that it was a love her manager did not share.

When she sang from the heart, not as the Countess, but as herself – to further her own passions for making the world a better place, something magical happened.  She touched the hearts of others with her music, and her cutie mark itself glowed.

This may seem like a small detail, but this moment is actually a microcosm for what the show is all about, and what this entire season has been building toward.  Everyone in Equestria has a cutie mark that represents their special talent – the mark they make on the world.  (That concept has always been shrouded in a certain mysticism and wonder.  It is a magic integral to who ponies are as a people, and for a lot of us, integral to what we love about the universe.)  There is, however, another level to it.

What happens when a pony uses that talent to help others – to make the world a better place?  What happens when someone devotes a piece of their own soul to the betterment of those around them?  A higher level of cutie mark magic is revealed.

I originally was planning to write a great big analysis detailing the development of these concepts from season one to season five, but that’s all stuff most of you have probably either heard, read, or thought of before.  You need look no further than the “Crusaders of the Lost Mark” to see the perfect example of this, and it has already been thoroughly analyzed by pretty much everypony.

Instead, I’m actually going to talk about the fandom for a moment, because I think there are quite a few parallels.  This show was a game changer for a lot of people.  Sure, for a lot of fans, it’s just entertainment, and that’s okay, but it also encouraged thousands to explore their own special talents; to open up socially; to become better people.

How did it make such a deep impact on so many lives?  I can’t speak for everyone, but for me, pony is essentially, a series of 22-minute Capra movies.  Watching them, thinking about them, and reliving them through fanworks filled me with so much joy – so with optimism – that my heart got lifted up, and I soon grew thirsty for more.  When I take those feelings and use them as fuel to keep a positive outlook – to be a better person, and a better friend, it’s almost like that Equestria Feeling never goes away.

Since 2011, this fandom has been using that ponyjoy to make the world a better place.  I firmly believe that the charity work that goes on here in the fandom is the very heart and soul of what we are all about.  Taking that magic we fell in love with and turning it into something real – something that leaves an impact on the world – something that concretely helps others – it’s a passion we should all nurture, and it’s a virtue that’s celebrated again, and again, and again throughout the series.

Yesterday, a remarkable episode aired.  It centered around a charity concert, and featured some truly remarkable performances of truly remarkable music.  In a stunning coincidence almost too good to be true, today (11/22), the fandom’s oldest charity, Bronies for Good, similarly reaches out to make the world a better place through music with the release of its sixth charity album, Building Bridges.

There’s an online stream and release party at 3pm EST at http://events.yoursiblings.org  Donations up to $1000 are being matched too!

I hope you’ll join in, but if you can’t make it, you can still download the album at http://sok.yoursiblings.org  All donations go directly to the Against Malaria Foundation, a highly respected charity that saves thousands of lives.

That’s real magic.  Dozens of hardworking dedicated bronies came together to make this project possible.  When you take that passion – that joy – and use whatever talents you have to make a difference, large or small, you shine.  You may not have a literal cutie mark that magically lights up, but that spark is still there.  All it takes to help make the world a better place is the belief that we can make a difference, and, of course, the willingness to try.
