“The Pet” Among Top Ten Shows on Friday

After one week mysteriously without Disney Channel ratings, we finally got ratings again for Friday, October 4, 2013. “The Pet” couldn’t quite measure up to the premiere episodes, but then it was an actual series premiere with all of Disney’s promotion leading up to it. Moreover, some sports thing dominates these ratings, something that will likely not happen to most future episodes.

“The Pet” got a solid sixth place in the ratings published on Zap2it. Poor SpongeBob barely made it into the ranking, but as the one who did the sorting I can console you with the observation that SpongeBob holds the 11th place as well.

“The Pet” Episode Guide

The Pet

In the wee hours of the morning, today’s episode “The Pet”—written by Ben Joseph and Greg White—was leaked on 4chan /co/. Out of respect for the creators, I held off of posting this until the time of the premiere. If you think this policy is misguided, please let me know in the comments.

When Wander and Sylvia board an abandoned spaceship, they encounter a horrifying alien monster that is set on eating them. While Sylvia sees the wild beast as a threat, Wander takes a liking to the ferocious little monster and tries to train it to be his pet. —Disney Channel press release

YayPonies have now uploaded the iTunes version.

As for the chronology of the leak, the file was created “2013-10-03 08:03:40” (no timezone given), Anonymous posted a link on /co/ at 08:12Z, which is the first public mention I could find of it, then ovarianeruption alerted us on Tumblr. (Someone also put it up on mega.co.nz.) The leaked file is only 78 MiB in size at VGA resolution, so it shows noticeable compression artifacts in addition to being cropped to 4:3.

Character Designs for “The Pet” by Bryan Arnett

Bryan Arnett used to publish these after the episode aired, but since we’ve all seen the promos for “The Pet,” he probably figured it was safe to select items from a scene that had already been disclosed. You can find the posts entitled “The Pet” and “Pet” on his blog.

This post will probably grow once the episode has aired and the artists publishes more of his designs, so check back regularly.

And it did. He made another post “The Pet,” one “The Pet Captain Tim,” and an untitled one. The episode feels a bit like time travel into the future, considering that it was apparently meant to be the 14th one. Halloween does that to shows I suppose.

Just now, several weeks after the episode, storyboard artist Steve Daye published another piece with the file name “woy114.jpg.” Since that appears to be “The Pet” in production order, I’ve added it here.

Busy with a board, here’s something I was lucky enough to work on this past summer…

New Promo Clip for “The Pet”

People posted frames from this preview of the episode yesterday already (e.g., Hayamika), but I had been unable to find a video recording. Ergo, I just ripped all of Disney Channel from the diligent streamers on iLive for a few hours, and voilà, here’s a new “The Pet” preview for you all.

The above video is a shorter full HD version recorded by Spazz. What is missing is a scene of Wander’s new pet scaring away a bunch of watchdogs and one of Wander screaming. They come after the Phineas and Ferb promo in the Lyra Hooves recording.

We also posted a longer “The Pet” preview yesterday.

Promo Clip for Episode “The Pet”

This is the promo for the half-hour episode “The Pet” (Friday, October 4, 2013, 9 p.m. EDT). These teaser clips ran right after the premiere of “The Good Deed” today. Many thanks again to Spazz!

Update: Disney Channel just uploaded a Mostober promo with two very short “The Pet” clips at roughly 0:47 and 1:17.
